James Winfield (Floyd) Ervin
James Winfield ERVIN, the son of Winfield Scott Ervin and Senora Eleanor Dearinger, was born in Colfax, Jasper County, Iowa in 1896. He enlisted in the Army and served as an airplane mechanic during WWI. After his discharge from the Army in 1917, he resided in Salt Lake City, Utah and was working for an automobile dealer as a mechanic. In 1927 he resided in Oakland, California where he worked as an auto electrician. It was there in 1928 that he met and married Ruth Laurine Marie HANSEN.
All recent records and family folklore refer to him as "Floyd" although his birth record does not use this given name.
This Ervin line has been traced from Ohio in the early 1800's, to Iowa in the late 1800's and later to California in the early 1900's. It is believed that the Ervin line originated in Scotland with movements to Ireland and later to America. There are many varied spellings such as Irvin, Irvine and Erwin. Work continues to establish a connection to the British Isles. Related lines include DEARINGER, LOUCKS, RULE and PATTERSON who have links to Germany, France, Ireland and Scotland.

Ervin DNA
In an on-going effort to establish positive links to other related persons, I have had my DNA tested by FamilyTreeDNA.com. The results can be found there and in their coordinated site ySearch.org. Lines of communication have been established with others who have also tested their DNA and who re closely related. This is an on-going research project and I urge others to do the same. The cost is minimal compared to the results.
